This tool will take roughly fifteen minutes, and remember that your answers are completely confidential. Also remember that there is no "right" or "wrong" answer. There is only the answer that is true for you. In this tool, we will focus on the three key areas where we believe is important to manage expectations. We have put these into what we call the Expectation-Management Hierarchy. The hierarchy has three layers: 1) You: At its core, it's most important to manage expectations with ourselves. What expectations do I have for myself? Where am I and where do I want to be? Is this realistic? What obstacles am I facing meeting my own expectations? 2) Others: Equally as important is how you manage other people's expectations and what expectations you have of others. Are you realistic and clear when expectation setting with others? Do you tend to over promise and under deliver or vice versa? Do you find yourself getting into trouble with meeting deadlines because you've said yes to all assignments that come your way? How about expectations that you set for others? Do you expect people to respond to you right away? To make your tasks a top priority? Does this person know the expectations you have of them? 3) The Universe: This relates to the way things unfold in the outside world, most of which is largely outside of our control. Are situations as bad as you think they are? Or are they just different from what you expected? Before we dive in, let's take a moment to reflect on how you are currently feeling.
