This is my story
Hi! My name is Matt Hurley and I want to thank you for taking the time to read this. I also want to commend you in taking steps toward coaching.
In my corporate career I was lucky to have coaching at multiple points of my career growth.
I wanted to share a bit about myself with you. I’m the first one in my family and extended family to go to college. I worked three jobs to help augment my parents’ contribution to my tuition. Once out of college I realized I had graduated during a recession. You do what you have to do, so I temp’ed for a few years before getting hired by Sun Microsystems as a financial analyst. For those of you that do not know Sun Microsystems, think of them as the Google of today, a company on a rocket ship that invested in culture and to grow its people. I worked for them for 12 years, moved three times, progressed into executive management and obtained my MBA at night after work. The company shaped me as a person and for the rest of my working career.
I’ve always led with the mantra ~ Hire great people, believe and invest in them, work with them to find the blockers and clear the lanes for them to do their stuff.
Over the last 30 years I’ve worked in the technology and telecom industry. I’ve had the opportunity to work for 3 Fortune 500 Brands: Sun Microsystems, Bell Canada and Juniper Networks. I’ve held roles in Finance, Operations, Mergers and Acquisitions, Services, Marketing, Channels and Sales. This journey has taken me to over 40 countries and also allowed me to live outside the United States for 10+ years.
In 2015 I wanted to try out a start-up. I wanted to roll up my sleeves and give it a shot. At Juniper Networks I was leading our Global Channel Team and Field Marketing. I had over 400 people in my organization, in my previous role at Bell Canada I led a division that had 3,500 headcount. I mixed all that up for a $20m ARR company called OneLogin and led a team of 2. The next six years were magical and a lifetime experience. We grew the company to $95m ARR and were acquired when I was Chief Revenue Officer.
Since OneLogin I’ve worked at two other founder-led start-up’s. One as Chief Revenue Officer and one as Chief Customer Officer. I’ve had fun in each and most importantly I learned.
Last year I decided that I wanted to end Phase I of my career (working for a single company) and pursue a path of Executive Coaching.
At the core of my career has always been a deep commitment to developing leaders. I tell people this is my Phase II and one that I have an extreme passion for; as coaching was one of the pillars that helped me. Once I was in senior leadership I invested in coaching and career pathing for my employees. I’m excited to be here at Ama La Vida and part of the team.
Outside work I’m married for 30+ years and have one daughter that is 25 and works for Arizona State University. We spend half of our year in Phoenix and the other half in Montreal. If I’m not working or spending time with my family you will find me on a golf course. I’ve played the game for close to 50 years.

My Coaching Approach
If I were to describe my coaching style it would be adaptable, results driven with humor mixed in so we can get you where you need to be. As in my executive career I believed in my people and now in Phase II I believe in my clients.
I believe that no two clients are alike and while no two are alike many of the situations we face repeat from company to company and career stage to career stage.
I bring a unique skill to the coaching experience in that I’ve been in the functions. I’ve built operations, led services and customer success teams. I’ve held a quota and have driven Sales, Marketing and Channels. My clients whether in a F500 Company or a Founder-led start-up appreciate that I’ve been in their shoes.
My goal is to help today’s and tomorrow’s leaders to be their best and inspire the teams around them.
Testimonials
“Working with Matt brought clarity and focus to a pivotal moment in my career. He helped me refine how I position my experience, elevate my presence in interviews, and communicate my value more effectively. The biggest shift was moving from describing what I’ve done to clearly articulating the impact I create. That change alone has significantly improved the quality of my conversations and opportunities.” – Senior Director Training and Enablement, SaaS Company (Series C)

Everytime, I speak to Matt, I learn new practical insights that I can apply to my cross-functional engagements. “I have had the unique pleasure of experiencing Matt’s people and team leadership first hand as both an employee AND as a client. I worked in his organization for almost four years in what was one of the most extraordinary and rewarding periods in my career. Matt is an exceptional team builder and motivator, cares about the people he leads, and is remarkably adept at balancing the needs, egos, and skills of a leadership team to push them into high performance. As a coach, Matt deftly shifts between listening, sharing examples from his broad set of experiences, offering feedback, and leading me to an idea as if it’s “my own.” I count myself fortunate to have been coached by him” – VP Global Commercial Marketing, F100 Technology Company
