What is Career Coaching

86,400 hours of your life will be at work. Don’t you want to make those 86,400 hours count? A year of coaching can totally transform your career. Career coaching with us isn’t just about landing you a new job – it’s about discovering what you need in a job to be truly happy. At Ama La Vida, we often see people looking for fulfillment, but have no idea where to even begin. Career coaches support you throughout the entire process of finding true fulfillment that will transform your career.

A Year with a Career Coach

Whether you are ready for a career change and don’t know where to begin, or you are wanting to level up in your career, a career coach can help transform your career. Below are a couple major ways that career coaching can help with this.

Clarity

Sometimes, you can’t see the forest for the trees. Career coaches help to uncover what you really want, especially when you don’t know what the first step is. Your coach will provide clarity by getting to the root of what matters most to you, makes you happy. and what is most important for you to have in your next job. Once we build that solid, introspective foundation, then we determine what your next step is. We work together to ensure that whatever comes next is truly aligned with all the true pieces of you. We don’t want to fit a square peg into a round hole and want to ensure both pieces fit. In order to do that, you need a clear picture of the true pieces of you. A coach helps with that!

Example: You don’t like your current job or the work you do. But you have no clue what else you want to do. A career coach comes in, helps you define what matters most to you and makes you feel energized and happy, and provides clarity on who you are. This provides you with a deeper understanding of who you are so that you can better decide what you need and what role is next for you.

Setting Goals

Once you have a clear idea of where you currently are, sometimes you don’t know what comes next. Or maybe you do know what comes next, but you don’t know how to get there. You need help moving forward! This is also where a coach can come in. Coaches help you come up with goals that will serve you and move you forward in the right direction.

Example: You are in your new role! Your new goal is to level up your career at your new company. Together, we would work on managing and optimizing your first 90 days in the role to make sure you are setting yourself up for success. We would also work to set up interim goals between day 1 and day 90 that would work specifically for you and your company.

Accountability to your Goals

You know your goals now. Great! But keeping your goals in mind can be hard, and setting new goals to take your vision to the next level isn’t always on your mind. There are distractions everywhere! A career coach provides accountability to ensure that you are doing the things you say you want to do. This accountability makes sure that you are achieving your overarching goal.

Example: One of your interim goals to set yourself up for success in your first 90 days was to get a mentor at work. You didn’t do it. We would dig into the why behind not completing this goal, work through those blocks and barriers, and figure out how to move forward to achieve your main goal.

Checking In & Course Correcting

A career coach will continually be checking in to ensure that all aspects of your life are optimized and up to your standards. Once a goal has been achieved, we will course correct and adjust to continually serve you and your goals. Consistent check ins and course correction ensure that your career is always what you want it to be.

Example: Your first 90 days went off without a hitch. You have a mentor, onboarded efficiently, and got acclimated to the culture. Great! But now what? We would then course correct to see what the next goal is for you. Some other things to work on with your career coach could be navigating workplace relationships, managing communication and conflict, impostor syndrome that creeps in, and setting new professional goals. But the list doesn’t stop there! Other things to work on with Ama La Vida’s coaches could be leveling up your leadership, general life barriers, health goals, body confidence, etc. We will continue to check in and course correct to ensure that you are at your most optimal!
