Certified Gut Health Specialist – The Institute for Integrative Nutrition

Hi! I’m Sophie and I’m so happy to meet you. I’m a Health and Wellness Coach with Ama La Vida. I coach people towards a whole range of health goals, such as improving energy, reducing stress, getting to a happy weight, getting out of diet mentality and overcoming burnout. However, I have deep expertise in all things gut health, digestive problems and IBS. Sick of being bloated? I’m your girl.
I’m originally from London, UK, then recently spent 2 years living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and now I’m loving life in Chicago. It’s safe to say I love travel and new adventures. Some other things I love are runs along the lake (that’s my meditation), a great cup of coffee (oat milk flat white, to be precise), trying out new restaurants and laughing with the people I love.
When I’m not embracing my inner foodie, I spend my time helping people heal their gut by empowering them to overcome their digestive issues. If you’re wondering how I got into this you aren’t alone!
My journey to coaching came after going through my fair share of gut issues. I worked in Marketing and Media in the corporate world for years (so I get what that lifestyle is like), always struggling with digestive problems, stress, and burnout, but very much in silence. I always had a passion for health and wellness, but never took it any further. It wasn’t until I got a parasite infection a few years ago, when I moved to Malaysia, that caused my gut health to get really bad. Having to sort out my own health is what gave me the kickstart to take it further..
I trained to become a Certified Health Coach and I specialized in gut health due to my personal experience of gut issues. However, what I’ve found is that, when someone comes to me with bloating and gut issues, it never stops there. We end up working on a whole host of health and life factors, from career to spirituality to stress, because it’s all connected. That’s what instilled the passion in me to coach across all areas of health and wellness..because you can be eating all the kale in the world but if you’re stressed to the max of you hate your job, you’re not going to feel healthy. I love helping others feel comfortable, in control and confident to live their lives.
I’m here to help my clients identify what’s at the root of their health and wellness problems and to make sustainable changes, that fit in with their life, so they can feel better, long term.
I believe in kindness, compassion and understanding…but don’t be fooled by that. I’ll challenge you to make big, impactful changes to your health. I know you’ve got what it takes to do it. You just need a process to follow and some guidance and accountability..
When it comes to working with me as a coach, this is what you can expect:
- Results-driven sessions: I’m all about having a nice chat, but if you’re not getting results then what’s the point in coaching? I focus on concrete actions and keeping you accountable to achieve real results.
- To be treated as an individual: although we focus on a process, it’s not one size fits all. Everyone’s body is different. So is their lifestyle. We’ll work on a plan that fits in with your unique life and goals.
- Open, honest conversations: I spend my days talking about poop and bloating… I won’t be shocked or embarrassed by anything you’ve got to say.
My clients tend to agree with me that food is important, but it’s not everything. This belief is why I take a holistic, sustainable approach to health as I know that there are so many aspects of your life that influence your gut. With a combination of diet, holistic nutrition and lifestyle changes, you can feel better. FOR GOOD. You get results, that last.
My ideal clients…
The thing all my clients have in common is that they are total superstars, who are killing it in other aspects of life, but the one thing they just can’t get a handle on is their health. They’re uncomfortable, but they soldier on. They do all sorts of healthy things for their body, and have spent time and money trying to figure it out, but are pretty frustrated because they still don’t have answers, or a clear way forward.
If this sounds like you, I am so excited to help you on your journey to taking control of your health and getting on with living that fabulous life of yours!
“Before working with Sophie, I was struggling with constipation, irregular bowel movements and discomfort, especially when traveling. I wanted to figure out what was causing the constipation and try to avoid it! Sophie helped me with this by introducing me to the Low FODMAP Diet and how to reintroduce the foods one by one to identify the roots of the issue, recommending gut-friendly products, and providing accountability and coaching.
Sophie is an encourager through and through and genuinely cares about her clients and their well-being. She is dependable and committed – she was there every Monday on time (even from a camper van!) and sent weekly reports of progress and homework. Sophie is also very knowledgeable about IBS, triggers, Low FODMAP program, and products.
As a result of this program, I can now travel with far fewer symptoms. I know what causes IBS for me and am far more educated about what to do to avoid flare-ups! My quality of life when traveling has improved tremendously.
I would recommend Sophie to anyone. No one should have to live life struggling with IBS!”
“I had stomach trouble for 12 years. During that time, I spent at least $5,000 on all kinds of things to help my stomach; including natural remedies, chiropractic “cures,” changes in diet, nutrition experts, more sleep, less stress, meditation, acupuncture, etc.
Then I met Sophie. In less than a month, she figured out what my problems were with my stomach. I could have NEVER figured this out on my own and NONE of the doctors or “natural” people were even close. I can’t recommend Sophie enough.”
“I’ve struggled with my food for DECADES. I’ve explored many different ways to address this… to no avail. I eat lots of sugar and lots of processed foods. I know this is unhelpful, but knowing and doing are two different things. Sophie gave me solid suggestions that I could actually DO. She did not suggest that I eliminate anything to start. For example, she suggested I ADD some fiber and offered suggestions for how I might do that. She did not insist that I take anything away. This helped calm me down right off the bat. I want to hold onto my food! I started to add one TBS of flax the day of our call and nearly a week later I already feel better! A simple, doable change that is working for me. I’ve struggled with pretty severe, regularly diarrhea for ages and just deal with it. Since we spoke I haven’t had a single bout. After coaching, I feel empowered! I can make the changes that we agreed to.
My belly is less full and round and I feel so much better. How is that possible with these tiny changes? I am so happy.
Sophie is kind and thoughtful. She approached me with zero judgment and really listened. She had thoughtful, wise suggestions that I could actually implement. If you struggle with digestive concerns such as bloating, constipation, and diarrhea, you are not alone and you do not need to suffer. You will be positively amazed at how quickly you can improve these symptoms with teeny tiny changes to your lifestyle.”
“Before I started working with Sophie, I was struggling with a complex chronic bowel condition and grief. My goals for the program were better sleep, to stress less and relief from my condition. Sophie helped me work towards my goals by encouraging me, listening to my complaints, and helping me regulate my bowels, exercise and drink more.
After working with Sophie, I am stronger, feel healthier, and have a regular bowel habit. Sophie is kind, empathetic and a great listener. She is such a caring and knowledgeable coach. She had helped me beyond what I thought possible. She isn’t shocked by anything and it was such a relief to talk to someone about my bowel condition who wasn’t embarrassed!”
